How should a Nehru jacket fit over a kurta?

The shoulders should sit cleanly, the buttons should close without strain and the armholes should allow movement over the kurta.

Should a Nehru jacket be shorter than the kurta?

Yes. A Nehru jacket generally finishes around the hips while the kurta continues toward the knee or below.

Navy, beige, charcoal, olive, maroon and patterned neutral jackets can work with a white or ivory kurta, depending on the event.

Yes, but one garment should remain visually dominant. Strong jacket patterns work best with restrained kurta embroidery.

It can be fully buttoned when comfortable, while leaving the top button open can create space around the neckline and reveal the kurta placket.
