Claude caption translation — AI-generated editorial fashion concept

A translated fashion caption should preserve what the garment is, not add claims that were absent from the source. Use Claude to keep a fact sheet beside each language draft. This workflow focuses on one caption and its wording, rather than inventing a new market campaign.

Prepare the source before the creative brief

Start with approved product facts and a short source caption. Specify the target language and regional variant, plus any garment words that should remain unchanged. Keep size names, composition and included pieces fixed. Ask for a back-translation and an uncertainty list, then have a fluent reviewer assess the actual draft. A familiar-sounding phrase is not automatically a faithful description of the garment.

Claude can analyse supplied images and prepare written briefs. It does not natively generate raster fashion photographs; a finished image brief belongs in a separately selected image generator.

Claude image-capability guidance, checked 20 October 2026.

Keep the evidence beside the brief

Use photographs and artwork you own or are authorised to use. Supply the whole garment and relevant detail views where image inputs are supported. Record what each source actually shows before describing a new location or lighting effect. Unseen construction remains unknown. Keep the original photographs available when reviewing the answer, especially if the output might later accompany a product listing.

Source Record Review target
Whole garment or outfit Outline, openings and layer order No invented pieces
caption translation The detail or information named in this guide Agree with the specific source
Written product notes Only confirmed facts No invented materials, benefits or availability

A worked editorial example

A fictional shirt caption says 'textured fabric' without a fibre claim. The first translation adds 'pure cotton'. The comparison flags that addition and restores the narrower source meaning. The finished draft still needs a fluent reader's approval before it accompanies the photograph.

Eight copyable Claude prompts

Replace bracketed fields with your own information. Use one prompt at a time and retain the useful answer alongside its source. These are proposed editorial workflows, not reported garment tests or comparisons between AI tools.

Prompt 1

Create a fact sheet from [approved caption and product notes], separating garment facts from optional tone before translating anything.

Prompt 2

Translate this fashion caption into [language and regional variant], retaining the supplied size names, measurements and included pieces exactly.

Prompt 3

Provide a literal English back-translation and mark garment terms whose meaning may change in the target language.

Prompt 4

Compare source and translated captions for added fibre, comfort, origin or sustainability claims that the approved facts do not support.

Prompt 5

Suggest two plain-language alternatives for [uncertain garment term], explaining what a fluent reviewer should check against the image.

Prompt 6

Shorten [translated caption] for [specified space] while preserving the actual garment facts and removing optional promotional wording first.

Prompt 7

Prepare a reviewer sheet containing the source, translation, back-translation and unresolved terms, without presenting the draft as approved.

Prompt 8

Produce the corrected caption from my reviewer notes [notes], showing any remaining question before final use.

Make the result useful across markets

State the audience, language and intended use in the brief. Keep regional clothing terms beside a plain description when meaning is uncertain. Do not infer dress rules, climate or buying preferences from nationality. For translated copy, retain the original alongside a fluent reviewer’s corrections. Keep commercial terms and measurements tied to their actual source; a translation or fictional image cannot establish them.

Check the answer before using it

Compare the output with the real garment, inventory or approved source. Resolve purchase-critical gaps with the seller and assess physical fit on the actual item. For imagery, reject changed details rather than approving them because the scene looks attractive. A generated image does not prove fibre composition, construction, comfort or performance. Keep conceptual styling separate from the item actually offered.

Frequently asked questions

Does back-translation replace a fluent review?

No. It is a comparison aid; natural meaning still needs a capable reviewer.

Should size names be localised automatically?

No. Use the retailer's approved chart for any size equivalence.
