Claude Clothing Return-Policy Prompts: Compare Conditions Before You Buy

Read the story
ChatGPT-generated editorial cover reading Claude — Read Before You Buy, with navy and ivory garments, an open parcel and blank tag; fictional clothing.

Give Claude the product page and the applicable return-policy text, then ask it to extract conditions without filling in missing details. Compare refund, exchange and store-credit rules separately before placing an order.

Cover image generated in ChatGPT as an editorial illustration. The pictured garments are fictional, not a product photograph, platform screenshot or evidence of fit, materials, price or availability. The separately labelled TryBuy product cards link to actual catalogue records.

Two garments can have the same price and different practical consequences when they do not fit. An “easy returns” headline may leave important questions unanswered. This workflow helps you read merchant wording. It is not legal advice or a statement of your legal rights.

Build a small policy evidence packet

Save the exact product URL, variant, policy URL and date checked. Include offer-specific restrictions and the destination relevant to your purchase. Use Claude’s documented web-search workflow when available; paste the relevant text when a page cannot be accessed. Redact order numbers, addresses and payment information from screenshots.

Eight copyable Claude prompts

Replace the bracketed fields with your own information and run the prompts one at a time. These are suggested workflows, not reported platform tests. Do not share payment details, passwords or unnecessary personal data. When a source cannot be accessed, supply relevant text and keep the access limitation visible.

1. Separate the possible outcomes

Read policy A: [text and URL]. Build separate rows for refund, size exchange, colour exchange and store credit. Record only what the text states. Use not specified when an outcome is not discussed; silence is not permission.

2. Find the window and its starting event

Extract the stated return or exchange window, the event that starts it, and any notification or dispatch deadline. Keep calendar days and business days distinct. Flag ambiguous wording and draft a precise clarification question rather than inventing a date.

3. Identify exclusions for my item

Compare [exact product listing] with policy A. Identify category exclusions, promotional restrictions, hygiene conditions and customised-item rules only where stated. Distinguish clearly applicable restrictions from those that need seller confirmation.

4. Expose the disclosed charges

List each disclosed shipping, collection, restocking or exchange charge and who pays it. Separate non-refundable original shipping from return shipping. Do not assume a missing charge is zero or invent a deduction.

5. Compare two policies fairly

Compare policies A and B for [shopping need]. Use permitted outcome, deadline, conditions, costs and unresolved questions as columns. Do not select a winner based only on the longest headline window. Cite the relevant source for each entry.

6. Check garment-condition requirements

Extract stated requirements for tags, packaging, labels, trying on, washing and alterations. Do not invent permission to wear or alter the garment before returning it. Identify anything I should clarify before removing labels or changing the item.

7. Draft a seller question

Write a short message asking the seller to clarify [uncertain clause] for [product identifier and destination country]. Keep it neutral. Do not include payment details or assert a refund entitlement that the supplied wording does not establish.

8. Create a decision note

Summarise confirmed conditions, unresolved points and any conflict with my needs. Link confirmed statements to their sources. Do not submit a return request, send a message or purchase the product; this is a reading and comparison task only.

The TryBuy product cards are not return-policy promises

The cards below deliberately do not give a return window. A product description and the applicable terms are different sources. Open the current policy and checkout information for the exact purchase. Terms on another marketplace should not automatically be carried into a purchase on TryBuy.in.

When policies conflict, preserve both versions

A newer-looking page is not automatically the applicable one. Keep the wording and ask the merchant which terms govern the item, offer and destination. A generated summary should help you ask that question, not conceal an inconsistency. Stop short of purchasing when an unresolved condition is important to your decision.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude confirm my legal right to return clothing?

These prompts organise merchant wording and are not legal advice. Legal rights and contractual terms can differ; obtain qualified help when a legal issue matters.

Does a missing fee mean the return is free?

No. Record the charge as unknown and ask the seller. Do not insert an assumed zero into a purchase comparison.

Does this article state TryBuy’s current return policy?

No. It links product examples for practice but does not promise a particular return window, fee or outcome.
